Don't Forget to Say Thank You!

Don't Forget to Say Thank You!

Yesterday I sent one of my employees a thank you gift for all her hard work.  I didn't have to and she wasn't expecting it.  However, it was very important to me that I acknowledge her efforts, even though she was "just doing her job".  I am blessed to have faboulous employees who are willing to go above and beyond.   Do you want to know the secret?  I never forget to show my appreciation.

Often times we forget that the people who work for us are spending at least 1/3 of their days making our business function smoothly.  We ALWAYS tell them when they screw up but how often do we remember to say thank you when they consistently perform their tasks well?  One simple phrase that can make all the difference in the world.  Two little words that take less than a second to say but can inspire incredible loyalty and hard work.  It's not difficult and yet it is so often overlooked!

I promised myself when I started my business that I would never take my employees for granted.  I went so far as to tell them that if I ever got too caught up in the success and forgot to acknowledge how we arrived there they have my permission to "remind" me that I didn't go down this path alone.  The result is that we are a tight-knit unit in which everyone involved shares in the success, whether with a high-five or a bonus check.

When you foget to say thank you, why should your employees go the extra mile?  They see no benefit.  They don't know if they are making a difference or just treading water.  How does this inspire loyalty?  How can you make your company grow and prosper?  You didn't get to this point by yourself and it is critical that you remember that EVERY DAY.  The better you treat your staff, the more they will want to strive to be successful.

So go out today and buy some thank you cards.  Bring some treats in once in a while.  E-mail an "atta boy".  But most importantly, stop and say thank you.  A little effort goes a long way!
