DON’T FORGET THE MAIN USER: YOU.

DON’T FORGET THE MAIN USER: YOU.

How we jump into solutions for our life without really understanding what we need.

Jumping into a new position, joining a different company, reducing working time, pursuing a trendy specialization, the list goes on. Often in life, we are trying to find solutions to what seem very straightforward problems, especially when it comes to our jobs.

Sometimes these moves bring some change, and some fulfillment - at least short term, for the most part though, they don’t bring the feelings of relief and meaning we were seeking.?

And we are left with the question: “Why?”

I believe that happens because we didn’t understand what we needed, what was the nature of the problem in the first place, and what would be the best way to solve it.

We have forgotten to look at ourselves as “the user” and research our own needs. We blindly jump to solutions that we assume will bring the value and impact we look for.

Like in many products, the feature was not needed, was hacked in the rush of solving it and delivering value asap, and it ended in a more complex and less meaningful situation than before. Sounds familiar?

What would mean to look at yourself as the main user/customer? What would look like if you take the time to research and explore the real needs and the problems worth solving?

Coaching can help with this. It can offer you the process and the space to go deep in your research about yourself and find what you need, why you need it and how you going to solve it. This will help you to take the next step confidently.

Is not very different from a Design process or a Discovery Process.

1. Understand your user, yourself.

Dive deeper into who are you, and what you value. What makes you the person you are and identify where you are in the journey of life. It’s often about a resetting and readjustment of where you are now.

2. Bring issues to the surface

What are the problems you are facing, and why do you feel like they do? Understanding what is blocking you, what are you afraid of and what makes you frustrated.

3. Identify Opportunities

What opportunities exist, and which ones fit you? What do the options imply for your life - what risks and opportunities do they bring?

4. Prototype & Test

Solutions come in different shapes and sizes, and they can (and should) be tested.? Explore what’s the range of options you have and ways to prototype and test them without many risks and investments.

5. Decide what to do next, knowing why.

After understanding who you are and what you need and which problems you have. After identifying opportunities and testing them, you know exactly what to do and how to do it.

But most importantly: why do so?

This is what coaching can help you with. Creating a space where you can dive deeper into the most important user: you. To better understand yourself, explore several options for your life, test them before making a huge turn, and create a strong why in your life.

It’s not always a linear process. There’s so much at play in trying to make a decision that creates meaning for us. It is not a recipe for immediate success. It’s a back-and-forth process with yourself - of self-discovery, exploration of futures, and experiments.?

My role is to support you on that journey, offer you the tools, facilitate your thinking and dig out what is already in you.

We have more in ourselves than we think we have.?
