Don’t Forget to Explain

Today I want to tell you the story of one of my clients.
Let’s call her Brenda.
She’s a tech gal who’s concerned about offering better ways to manage software operations.
And she has a conference coming up where she will be speaking with tons of bigshot CTOs and CIOs of various corporations.
That’s why Brenda wants to make sure that her speech is no less than perfect.
So, we went through her speech.
And it was great, to be honest.
In fact, for someone who works in the tech industry…
She’s really concerned about patterns and making sure that her speech flows really well.
But if there was one thing she could improve upon in her speech…
It was in how she presented her numbers.
You see, it was unavoidable for Brenda to talk about several stats, like how much-repeated mistakes in software operations are costing companies.
As you may know…
There is nothing wrong with presenting numbers in a speech, as long as you take the time to explain them.
But if you just open up a whole lot of things to your audience, like stats, jargon, or various scenarios, you risk leaving people feeling uncertain.
They wouldn’t really know what to do with these pieces of information…
…Unless you do something about it.
If you want them to recognise the importance and value of the numbers you are presenting…
Be sure they know what you’re talking about.
Explain your numbers briefly but concisely.
Do it enough so that they know the significance of the stats you used in your speech.
That way, they will appreciate the time you took to research and present accurate details in your event.
It’s what Brenda did.
And her speech got her entire audience’s attention.
Now, if you need more tips on how to present numbers the right way…
Send us a message and we’ll be more than happy to help you.
Cheers,
Carmen
