Don't forget to add some simplicity to your week

As we welcome the new work week after Valentine's and the Lunar New Year, I reflect on the discussion my wife and I had over dinner last night.

We were both in agreement that the simplicity of this weekend - walk-the-dog excursions, tacos and WandaVision, Valentine's over pizza and mojo's, and night cap while building Lego bricks surely breaks the cycle of complexity on top of more complexity that we encounter in our daily work lives. And thankfully we were conscious that there's a mutual need to break such cycle with simplicity.

As John Maeda said in his book The Laws of Simplicity, "Simplicity and complexity need each other". But oftentimes, we are bogged down by complexity after complexity after complexity (continue loop based on experience) that we forget to break the rhythm. Things eventually becomes monotonous to the point of irritation (or burnout for some). Don't you agree that it's high time to flow through a different rhythm?

So this week, remember to instead aim for a combination of complexity and simplicity...it could be a cycle of up and down or waves of one followed by a sudden peak (or two) of the other. The same goes for your colleagues and family members - remind them to do something simple to break free from the repetitiveness of complexity.

Whatever you do this week, don't forget to break the complexity with some simplicity (or other way around). Walk a few minutes in between meetings. Wash the dishes after finishing your presentation then review it again. Draw with your child before a client presentation.

If you have ideas on how you keep a balance of Simplicity and Complexity, especially during this time that we are working (or studying) from home, do share it. Somebody may need your suggestions.

Have an awesome week ahead!

P.S. I finally had the courage to write again so do share your feedback. Who knows, I may come up with more.
