Many overseas employees working for UK companies or individuals who have relocated to the UK for work have common misconception that submitting a tax return automatically entitles them to a tax refund. However, this is not the case for everyone.

Beware of Tax Advisers who promise refunds in the name of Tax Returns.

The UK tax system allows specific tax-free allowances, such as temporary workplace relief, but these apply only in certain cases. It is subject to eligibility. Factors like your employment agreement, workplace location, assignment details, and visa type play a crucial role in determining your eligibility.

Most employers already run a dispensation scheme, meaning portions of your salary may already be tax-free. Claiming these expenses again in your tax return could lead to incorrect filings.

Unfortunately, some advisors wrongly promote this as a standard approach for all overseas hires. This practice must stop! Always verify your eligibility before filing.

HMRC warns on tax refund scams, Scammers are sending fraudulent emails, social media post and text messages claiming tax rebates to deceive individuals into sharing their personal and account information. Think about yourself, are these advisors need to promote services based on claiming tax refund for genuine? I really doubt then they are aware of other tax laws.
