Don't Expect Greatness

Don't Expect Greatness

Expect to get out what you put in. If you don't put in what it takes, why should you expect to get it?

We are often caught up in a world of motivational quotes, speeches, and videos that give us that injection of energy to make us believe the next hour of hard work justifies getting the end result we want. We feel like we can run through a wall, and for a short while, we make the calls, finish our reports, exercise, or whatever it is to achieve the goal we have set. People often post to social media about the action they just took to take the next step towards greatness.

Talking about it doesn't make you great. Posting about it surely doesn't do it.

Greatness comes in many forms. Great parent. Great athlete. Great student. Great friend. Insert anything you want to be great at. That's up to you. Whatever you choose, you must be willing to give it your all. You must be willing do to all the little things. You must be consistent. You must be honest with yourself. Being great is action. It is life. The commitment to greatness is not found in a video or speech, it's in you. You have to pull it out and will it into existence.

Social media is filled with a false sense of greatness. Instant riches and satisfaction are not reality. The years of hard work it takes are not captured in the pictures posted. We don't see the 80 hour work weeks, the early morning miles being run, the repetitions of catches, the time playing with the kids to be great.

Small sticks build big fires. Commit yourself to being great by hard work. There is no substitute. Don't expect to be a great salesperson if you are not putting in the work calling, networking, and learning. Don' expect to be a great athlete without the early morning workouts, extra repetitions after practice and learning. Don't expect to be great at anything unless you are willing to do the hard work.

Actions do speak louder than words. Putting in the work to be great still doesn't mean greatness will happen, but you will be able to look yourself in the mirror and know that you gave it your all.

Greatness! My coach demanded it of all. I guess that’s why we won championships every year. Indeed, it only happens vehemently you put in the work!
