Don't drown in a sea of buzzwords
In the last 5 years I've been asked a number of times to lead projects that create better workplaces for the future. From startups, to established medium sized companies all the way up to enterprise level - they all want a productive, happy and inspiring office.
The mistake people are making is thinking great offices are made from steel and top teams perform because of rules.
Culture is what gives a company its character and ultimately its success. I have found it reflects your values, behaviours and who you are. Culture is deep and like the currents in the ocean, it impacts everything above it.
If you want to build a winning team or an office people can be successful in, nurture an environment that stands on the foundations of a healthy company culture and strategy.
What is above the surface?
Many companies think they can win by focusing on;
- Short term goals, structures, policies and laws.
What is beneath the surface?
What you should never lose sight of when considering company culture;
- Identity, feelings, stories and values.
The future of work is changing because of people and their ability to realise what is truly valuable. Studies have shown that diverse teams perform at higher levels but also have a larger range of needs.
Award winning places and strategies have to be designed and grown with company purpose and behaviours in mind.
Big Tip! Successful teams and workspaces are flexible, collaborative, active, community focused, inclusive, accessible and sustainable.
What do you think, is company culture a thing?

4 年Hello! I loved reading your article. Also, great title! I am working on similar topics and must say, that i mostly miss the depth in the way our modern world is?going about it.? Companies want to implement change in the fastest way possible and the gain/ profit should not change. So, in the tension there is to keep it all running in the end only causes: no change or even negative impact.? Thanks for making a clear, pure statement about a multilayered phenomenon: company culture.

5 年I love how you took the most important concepts to break down in this article. The identities, feelings, stories and values are the human-side of the company. After all, we're selling to humans.?
