The Sun's rays are vast but those that affects our skin include:
- UVA
- UVB
These rays especially UVA are the primary cause of skin darkening especially in skin of color. These rays penetrate deep into all the layers of the skin and cause damage.
If you look at photos of your aunties, mother or women way above 50years, you would notice their complexion over the years has darkened, for those who never wore sunscreen religiously.
Black skin darkens on sun exposure therefore if you desire a youthful, radiant complexion just use a Sunscreen.
There is a common misconception among black women, that as long as one is indoors there is no Sun exposure!
As long as there is daylight in a room or car, UVA rays can penetrate windows, you are exposing your skin to the sun.
Strive to use sunscreen daily as part of your skin care routine.
With Love,
Dr Kathryn.
