Don’t Do This If You Want A High-Converting Landing Page

Don’t Do This If You Want A High-Converting Landing Page

One of the biggest mistakes I see marketers make with landing page design is when they focus entirely on making the landing page look pretty.?

Sure, it’s great to have a landing page that looks good (landing page builders can help).?

But your landing page design should really have just one goal:?

To support and amplify your message (AKA - your copy).

Animations, videos, carousels…all the other shiny new objects are trendy, but they can end up overpowering the message.?

Oftentimes, they leave the website visitor confused about what to do and where to click (or tap).

So, my number rule for creating landing pages is simple:

First, write the copy, and only then start working on the design.?

Here’re a few more rules for landing page design:

  1. Use images to support what’s being said in your copy.
  2. Avoid busy, distracting images.?
  3. Always think about readability — the fonts you’re using, the background color, and kerning (you’d be surprised how much this can affect readability).?
  4. Use the same color for your CTA throughout the landing page (avoid using the same color for any other elements on the page)
  5. Make your images as authentic as possible (choose images your target audience can relate or aspire to).
  6. Test strategic images (e.g Avoid using screenshots of your SaaS product as your hero image, instead use them lower on the page and have your hero image reflect the customer)
