Don't Do This One Thing If You Want to Attract New Customers On LinkedIn

Did you know that at any given time, less than 1% of your ideal customers are in the market to buy from you?

To get those buyers’ attention, you need to be seen where they are hanging out, and in the business and professional world, there’s only ONE social media platform that they care about which is LinkedIn.

The two major keys to attracting people who are ready to buy is to be in front of them at exactly the right time they are seeking a solution (this is called the “recency theory”) and to position yourself as the right fit for their needs.

Since you can’t park your car outside of their offices and hold up a sign that says, “Buy Me,” you’ll need another approach to connect and engage with them. This is where LinkedIn sales and marketing strategies are so valuable.

However, most people have no clue what works and what doesn’t on LinkedIn to get any leverage.

You don’t know how many webinars I’ve attended from so-called LinkedIn “Experts” touting their training helps turn your business into an overnight success.

It’s complete B.S.

For example, I saw a LinkedIn “Expert” celebrate his program that helped one of his clients get new leads and he showed his numbers:

  • 1000 Connection Requests Sent
  • 25% Accepted (which means 75% did not, that’s a big number… 750 did not)
  • Of those, 20% Replied... only 50 replies out of nearly 1,000 requests (who knows what the reply was, probably “get lost”)
  • 10 Meetings were set (that sounds good, but is it?)

This looks great at first glance; they booked 10 meetings. But is this really good? NO! 10 meetings out of nearly 1,000 connection requests is about 1%, and when I asked how many converted to customers, no-one would answer me. I suspect that’s because that number was ZERO. That's a lot of effort for nothing.

In another example from a different LinkedIn “Expert” she was teaching people to connect with up to 20 people a day and send them a cold message offering a complimentary strategy call to fix all their new connection’s problems. I don't know the results she promised, because as soon as I heard this suggestion, I left the training.

I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of receiving these kinds of messages. It is so annoying. Especially the ones that tell me they want to help me with LinkedIn, or writing a book, or becoming a speaker (all of which I’m very proficient at and are represented on my LinkedIn profile). It’s even more annoying when they say they have looked at my profile and I know that couldn't possibly be true. I get really frustrated.

I question if any of these “experts” have any real sales experience. Sure, cold calling works some times, but it's like trying to find the needle in the haystack. It's not very efficient, you end up annoying a lot of people and you risk tarnishing your company's reputation.

This is NOT how you attract high-paying customers.

If you want to use the cold messaging method, then stop reading now and unsubscribe to my newsletters. This is not the approach I teach.

Instead, I’m hosting an amazing training, LinkedIn Crash Course, where I’ll tell you what works to get these buyers’ attention, to build interest in your service, create desire for your support, and take action.

Jennifer, your approach is so much better! It's all about building relationships, otherwise, it seems more like the old door-to-door sales approach!

I hate those spammy messages after I've agreed to connect! Nine times out of ten it's very obvious that they didn't read a single thing on my profile. See you in your course next week!
