Don't Be Discouraged When Looking for Jobs

It's normal for people to leave jobs in search for another. We've always been taught to go for something that we are passionate about. What we are not accustomed to is not having some work for a long time.

If you cannot find a job within a week after you start submitting your applications, you suddenly become worried and antsy. You easily become anxious and stressed. It's no longer a wonder if you fall into some type of depression.

You very well know that you could not get a job when you're feeling down and blue. You need to learn how to never give up and maintain that sense of hope. One good way is to make use of affirmations or subliminal messages.

Use Affirmations to Boost Your Confidence

The different affirmations or subliminal messages can give you one thing you definitely need when you're unemployed: confidence. You cannot afford to appear anxious and depressed when you go out on interviews. It's so easy for you to compare yourself with the other applicants, so instead of focusing on what you have, you end up giving more attention on what you don't possess. Moreover, companies these days can easily distinguish a confident person from one who isn't even from a distance. It's in the way you move, dress, talk, and walk.

Normally, though, you're a confident person. However, that self-esteem starts to diminish the more time you spend being unemployed. What you need to do is to learn how to maintain it.

A good way to apply subliminal messages or affirmations is through visualization. Early in the morning, before you start looking for work, or before you go to bed, look at yourself in the mirror. Stare at yourself straight in the eyes and tell yourself:

  • I have plenty of good qualities I can share.
  • I am ready for whatever challenge is coming my way.
  • I am open to great opportunities.
  • I embrace the surprises life is going to throw at me.
  • I am strong and confident.

Repeat these as often as you can until you can sense your mind saying them over and over. The more you say them the more they come naturally to you. It's like they become your new belief system.

Another technique is to lie down and close your eyes. Start by making slow deep breaths until you can feel really relaxed and comfortable. Don't fall asleep. Just create images in your mind. Imagine yourself climbing up the stairs, each labeled with the different challenges you believe you have to face. In every step you make, say, "I can conquer this." Feel every move of your feet. Make sure you can feel the victory every time you step on these challenges. Continue climbing until you can reach the top, which is a symbol of your ultimate success. Once you reach the top, you can say, "I made it!"
