Don't Be Depressed When Training Goes Badly
All coaches have days when they think the training session they have just led was all wrong and that there was nothing to take away from the hour and a half spent frustrated at the lack of understanding going on in the players taking part.?
I can remember coming home from one session, pouring with rain, the windscreen wipers swishing to and fro, the red lights of the cars in front not moving and the windows steaming up from the two boys drying out in the back of the car.?
It hadn’t gone well. The defending session had ended up with the attacking players scoring far more goals than usual, the players staring at me, hands on hips saying “it’s not working coach” and me holding a soaking wet crumpled piece of paper.?
But after getting home and drying out I thought about the session. Yes the attackers had scored more but that is a good thing. My attackers made the most of the confusion and scored at will. And by the end of the session it had picked up, the rain stopped and the defensive structure for the last few minutes actually worked.?
And the players didn’t give up even though they weren’t 100 per cent behind what I was doing in the pouring rain. Every training session has something to take away.?
I’ve learned how to get the best out of my coaching sessions. You can too with Cupello!?
