Don't be "comfortable", be a Difference Maker

Taking on a challenge is a lot like riding a horse, isn't? If you are comfortable while you are doing it, you are probably doing it wrong.- Ted Lasso
?This Ted on that Ted:
Business ownership will be uncomfortable. Isn't all change uncomfortable?Comfort at work is often stagnation and it’s worse than being uncomfortable.Just yesterday, a client of mine, a VP of a firm in the fashion sector told me, “This job is killing me, I am dying a little each day.”
?My clients tell me that their work doesn't seem to matter much. It’s not very meaningful. If they were gone, the next in line would step in and not much would be different. They would be forgotten quickly.
They want to feel excited and challenged. They’ve reached a stage in life where money isn’t everything. They want to make a difference and do work that is consequential. If they once felt a sense of purpose, it's gone. They want to get it back while they can.
Clients tell me that they’re tired of stressing over merges and acquisitions. They don’t want to be forced to lay off good colleagues. They don’t want to lose sleep worrying about their own pink slip.
They're sick of office politics. They’re sick of being asked to do more with less resources and not feeling fairly compensated or acknowledged. They’re tired of working hard to create wealth for investors and board members rather than themselves. They are just done with corporate life.
Often my clients are not sure what they want to do with the next 10 or 20 years.. but it isn't this. What I hear most often is, "There has to be something more."
Many are ready for the next challenge. Giving up a regular pay check and benefits is uncomfortable. Even with tremendous training and support from the franchisor, depending on oneself is uncomfortable. A few will climb on the horse, feel very uncomfortable, handle the fear that every business owner faces, but cherish the ride into the future.
As the other Ted (Lasso) said,?"You say impossible, but all I hear?is I'm possible."
