Don't change everything.
Eric Clemow
Driving strategic results by developing organizations and the amazing people that make them great.
As a change leader, a lot of my time is spent focusing on the transformative power of change. Helping people to adopt and thrive in an ever changing world. While it is true that driving and leading improvement is critical to success (in all aspects of life frankly), it is also true that some things are worth keeping the same.
Traditions hold our communities, families, and organizations together. They support and nurture us through our darkest and brightest moments.
The holiday season is a great reminder of the importance of tradition in our lives. Recipes passed down for generations, caroling, putting up the lights, and decorating the tree mean so much to so many. My grandparents sang Silent Night, and I hope with all my heart that my grandchildren will too.
It is the heart of these traditions that matter the most. Sure your lights are LED now, and Miracle of 34th Street is streaming over the internet, but that does not change the traditions themselves.
Identify and protect the traditions in your organization. They mean more to your employees than you think.
In short, don't change everything. Some things are just too sweet, too lovely, and too important to change.
