Don't buy into shaming marketing

If you are a new entrepreneur, or even just new to online marketing and sales copy, I'd like to share some shaming marketing tactics and encourage you not to let the marketers that use them label or define you or your business.

Some consultants use blanket statements to shame people into thinking they aren’t good enough and increase their sense of lack, so that people will buy their service or product.

This is the opposite of doing business from an encouraging, abundant mindset.

Here are the the 3 things to watch out for:

1. Are you a wannapreneur and not a real entrepreneur?

2. If your business isn’t making money, you don’t have a real business.

3. If your business is a hobby, you don’t have a real business.

When you are in the startup phase, you don’t always know what you are doing, and you won’t be profitable from day one. The online "trusted expert, consultant and coaching" business model is especially notorious for being extremely competitive, requiring an inordinate amount of upfront relationship building and strategic free content distribution.

The truth is, no business pops out of the founder's head and into reality without some sort of upfront investment.

Bottom line is this - Yes, at some point your business has to show profit to be sustainable. But that decision is not up to a business coach who wants to sell you services. YOU (and your bank account, capacity for risk and sleepless nights) get to decide what kind of business you want, and the timing of when you cross the line from startup to sustainability to killing it with profits. Don't be shamed into thinking otherwise.

Yes! Your 3 points are exactly what I recently had to address with a client too.
