"DON'T BELIEVE ANYMORE" ~ Icehouse
A great song and great lyrics by Icehouse. This song comes to mind a lot over the last 3.5 years or so. Iva Davies - a great vocalist. Speaks the voice of millions.
"I never counted on this Guess that's the way that it goes, yeah You used to be someone I knew Somebody I could understand but
Now I don't know what to do And I don't know who you are no All those things I hear you say You talk that way you're a stranger and I...
I don't know where to begin Don't want to hear it again I don't believe anymore And this is all I know I know I've heard it before I don't believe anymore
And I remember your voice Before this happened to us And I could see And I was sure And everything was young and new but
We lost it too many times And that's the way that it is Lovers come And lovers go When you think you know it just isn't true, I...
I don't know where to begin Don't want to hear it again I don't believe anymore And this is all I know I know I've heard it before I don't believe anymore
I don't know where to begin Don't want to hear it again I don't believe anymore And this is all I know I know I've heard it before I don't believe anymore Mmm-hmm
Don't believe anymore Don't believe anymore
Don't know where to begin Don't want to hear it again Don't believe anymore And this is all I know I know I've heard it before Don't believe anymore Don't believe anymore."

1 年The song "No Promises" can also be heard with a political double entendre. The West is slipping into technocratic totalitarianism, and our regimes are tightening population control measures. Australia, NZ, and Canada are heading in the same direction. Now that the hegemony of the petro-dollar is coming to an end, the naked truth is revealed: no national monnay (the US dollar) can serve as an international currency without destroying the domestic economy that backs it. The American thalassocracy served the interests of the ultra-wealthy. Its collapse reveals that the rest is in ruins. We have created financial value for the benefit of an exocracy by destroying our wealth. What we call "democracy" has always been a representative plutocracy. As long as the USSR still stood, we had an illusion of choice, but it was based on an external factor: the opposition between two totalitarisms, Soviet and American. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the illusion has been torn: the four powers in our regimes are not separated; they are intertwined. This totalitarian drift is inevitable but it will come to an end by itself, in a destructive manner. In the meantime, we must protect our humanity and prepare the building of a real democracy.

1 年Iva Davies is a fucking good singer whose vocal creativity is damn underrated. His vocal style was incredibly versatile. He never ceased to explore different colours in his voice. Depending on the tracks, you'd swear for a few seconds he's Jim Kerr from Simple Minds, or Brian Ferry from Roxy Music, or David Sylvian from Japan, or Gary Numan, or Mike Scott from Waterboys, or John Lydon from PIL, or David Byrne from Talking Heads, and sometimes in the same song. It's just crazy.
