Don't battle yourself

Starting your own business means you'll have plenty of battles to fight.
There's no need to add to the struggle by battling yourself.
"I agree, I would never want to make things unnecessarily harder," I said to myself.
But I didn't make the time to talk to past clients to figure out what they really bought. I didn't want to bother them. I was worried that even if I bothered them successfully, I might not like what they had to say.
I was worried about the prices in my proposals.
I didn't want to listen what people told me about why some people didn't buy. I thought I was listening, but I wasn't really.
I was having battles inside my own head, instead of conversations with clients.
As much as we glorify the lone genius, receiving enlightenment on the mountaintop, that's not how professional services works. It's about collaboration. It's baked right into the business model.

So stop picking extra fights in your own head. There are plenty of battles you can't avoid. Save your energy for them.
Make sure you make time to have the conversations that will help you make your business exponentially easier.
Get out of your own head and collaborate with other folks. Those people I was scared to call-- very happy to hear from me, and happy to help. I'm willing to bet the same will be true for you.

4 个月good points Reuben Swartz - when I work with new business owners, there seems to be a trend to shy away from using systems and strategies that require more work in the short-term, but pay off in the long run is immeasurable!

4 个月Reuben Swartz I admit that I have been victim of worrying about the prices in my proposals. And I have tried to mitigate this by imitated conversations about it with clients but some are very resistant or skidish around these conversations. Any recommendations about making this go more smoothly?
