Don't Be Afraid of Your Own Power

#TrapRecruiterConfession: A year ago I was drowning in self-doubt, lacked confidence and most days I didn't even recognize myself. As a result, I wasn't fully engaged in my passion and the only way I survived and kept my head above water each day was by telling myself, "You're not depressed because you don't have a (recruiting) job. You don't have a (recruiting) job because you're depressed.".

#Facebook memories reminded me that today was the day I had a conversation with Sarah Fader which provided me one of the life jackets I so desperately needed. She was affirming me, building me up and encouraging me to stop waiting for the perfect time to DO all of things to take #TrapRecruiter to Charlie Sheen levels of WINNING! As much as I wanted to believe her my impostor syndrome got the best of me. When I ran out of excuses as to WHY I wouldn't jump all in, I told her, "I refuse to do things that I don't have a shot at winning.".

Ever the optimist and champion for her loved ones, she took this as an indication that I was ready to start swimming to safety. The truth was, the statement was rooted in fear and I wasn't about to put myself out there only to fail. Before our conversation concluded she created two graphics and posted them on social media in hopes that they would not only motivate and inspire me, but others. The first was what I said and the second was something I wear on my chest (literally, she sent me a shirt), "Don't be afraid of your own power".

This reminds me of the book I try to literally get everyone to read: Mindset by Carol Dweck. All about growth vs fixed mindset (which is totally about not attempting to do things you might fail at). Thanks for writing this confession Keirsten!
