Don’t Be Afraid to Go Visual

Don’t Be Afraid to Go Visual

Have you ever wondered why we tell stories during our public speaking engagements?

Couldn’t we just stick with the facts?

The numbers?

The statistics?

Well, technically we could do that.

But the truth is, our presentations just become much more effective when we tell stories.

That’s because stories paint pictures in your audience’s mind…

It takes them to a whole new world through imagination…

And it pulls them into the message you’re trying to deliver.

So, creating those visual images is absolutely crucial for effective speeches.

But as much as we’d like our words to be enough to create certain images…

There are times when actual visual aids can’t hurt.

Take, for instance, the presentation we rehearsed in our Rehearsal Room recently.

See, the speaker wanted to make a presentation about bringing German culture into Australia.

So, in her mind, there’s this very clear depiction of what German culture looks like.

She says it’s like an open kitchen where everything’s pristine.

From the white tiles in the kitchen…

All the way to the uniforms of the chefs.

She says this is how she pictures the kind of discipline Germans have.

So I told her…

Why not drop some pictures of these pristine open kitchens as a visual aid for when you’re talking about German culture?

I told her she could flash some of those images and then tell her audience:

This is what we’re trying to create in Australia.

I imagine seeing those pictures would make her audience feel different.

It’s as if they’re actually stepping into a certain working environment that they’ve never been in before.

In this example, the pictures create a much bigger impact than just simply explaining what happens in German open kitchens.

So, when you’re preparing for a big speech…

Or an important speaking engagement…

Think of some moments when you can pull up some visual aids to really drive the point you’re trying to make.

Now, if you need more actionable tips on how to use visual aids for your presentations…

Just send us a DM, an email, or a call and I’ll help you out.

Cheers,

Carmen?
