Don't be afraid of coding. A 6th grader can do it.
The most original IT-solutions have always been created by society’s brightest, young minds. That’s why we at Netcompany enjoy supporting various organisations and initiatives that help children and young people gain an interest in IT. One of the projects, Coding Class, has shown how much a few weeks of inspiration can grow the confidence of a young person - and that almost no age is too young to start coding.
Over the span of five weeks, a 6th grade from Damhusengensskole in Copenhagen with no prior knowledge of IT learned how to code and build creative IT solutions from scratch. During the process, the children could seek assistance from Netcompany manager Senol K?ycü , who had designed an original case for the class.
The children’s extensive work culminated at Netcompany’s headquarters in Copenhagen where the children presented their IT solutions to each other, Senol K?ycü and Nikolaj Hattens Glem? from Coding Class. The winning team was also selected.
?“I am impressed by how much they have managed to create during a short period of time. They have built some great solutions and done their own coding. They have created something out of nothing. I think that is truly remarkable!” – Senol K?ycü, Manager at Netcompany
Sif and Villum, two of the students who participated in the Coding Class program, found it thrilling to be able to create something from scratch together with their classmates.
“We had to create a solution to a problem together in groups, which was really fun. First, we came up with the ideas and then afterwards we created the app and did all the coding ourselves. Sometimes our app didn’t work, but then we were able to find the problem in the code and fix it. It was great to be able to do that!”?

Villum agrees with Sif and adds: “And then it was fun to come and visit Netcompany, present our solutions and get a tour of the office. I thought that was exciting.”
According to Nikolaj Hattens Glem?, teacher from Coding Class Cph , it is crucial to have strong partnerships with IT companies such as Netcompany: “By working on a tangible case and being able to get feedback from someone like Senol – an IT professional who works for one of the biggest IT companies in Denmark – the children feel like there is a real output on their work. They get the experience of achieving something that has an impact.”
Rikke Thunberg , 6th grade teacher at Damhusengensskole, adds about the growing interest she experienced during the day from students: “It was clear to see how the students' confidence grew after receiving such positive feedback from Senol.”
