Don't Be Afraid to Be a Beginner (Again)

As an entrepreneur, I think an innate sense of curiosity and willingness to take risks are part of one's makeup. When you're starting a new business or testing a new idea, the only way to know if it works is if you work it!

But I have to admit something to you: As I get older, more experienced and, I'd say, more established as an executive coach, I notice a wee bit more hesitation when I consider trying something new. Ok, maybe it's more than wee. Sometimes I have to talk myself into it!

You know what comes up for me when I consider trying something new?

  • Will people question what I'm doing?
  • Shouldn't I already know this?
  • Does this look ridiculous for me to start this at my big age? :)

One answer for all of that: So what!

So what if people question you? Do those people also pay you? Support you? Love you? Even know you? Oh okay.

So what if you should know this already? The best time to learn something that could have helped you was yesterday, the next best time is today.

So what if you're more, ahem, seasoned as you begin this new thing? Better to learn it now than get left behind because you refuse to keep up with the times.

When I reflect on my twenty-plus year career in media and the past decade as an executive coach for high-performing women, one of the keys to my success has always been remaining curious. Staying open-minded. Being unafraid to be a beginner again.

Don't let fear hold you back from exploring a possibility that could open new doors for you. Begin again...

From what I was reading it seems that you cater to women only?
