I'll keep it short and sweet today...
Many organizations commonly associate zero trust solely with technology, but I'm here to clarify that it's not limited to technology alone. This misconception is prevalent in today's tech landscape. I'd like to emphasize that technology does indeed play a significant role within the zero trust framework. In simple terms, zero trust encompasses people, processes, and technology. Frequently, organizations heavily rely on human resources to achieve their objectives, often overlooking the potential for errors and burnout that this approach entails. On the other hand, entrusting technology to operate independently can also introduce room for error. To effectively implement zero trust, processes should be carefully designed to influence both technology and the individuals responsible for its maintenance. If your agency is managing vulnerabilities, it's crucial to ensure that automation is integrated with appropriate checks by your personnel.
Here's the crux: without technology, your team may become overwhelmed by an insurmountable workload. Without personnel, there's no one to assess and mitigate false positives generated by the technology. Without well-defined processes, there's a lack of structure, discipline, and routine in both the technology and the individuals supporting it. Processes are vital for enabling individuals to execute specific tasks effectively from day one. In the Zero Trust Framework, encompassing People, Processes, and Technology is essential. If you're a C-suite leader eager to adopt the latest technology, it's wise to think twice before acquiring it and ensure that you have everything else in place. Remember, technology is nothing without processes, and it must seamlessly integrate with your existing infrastructure.
