Donors' Forum - June 18, 2024

Please join us for our next Donors' Forum meeting on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024.? We will meet on Zoom.?The meeting will run from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. (EDT) ?We begin and end precisely on time.? Please note: We record our discussions and archive them on our website, so that they will be available in the future.

This meeting will be our last until September, as we are taking a summer break during July and August.

Our guest will be Justin Elliott, one of the leading investigative reporters in the nation.? For ProPublica he covers business, politics, and nonprofits.??In recent years, he was on the team of reporters documenting how the rich avoid taxes for “The Secret IRS Files” series.? He co-wrote the story revealing tech mogul Peter Thiel’s?multibillion-dollar Roth IRA., and the story?about?Clarence Thomas.??Previously,?his work?on TurboTax-maker Intuit’s misleading marketing tactics led to a?settlement?that delivered $141 million back to consumers.??

Justin was our guest at Donors' Forum on January 9th, 2019, when he discussed, among other things, his article, "How the Red Cross Raised Half a Billion Dollars for Haiti and Built Six?Homes."

He has produced stories for The New York Times and NPR, and his work has spurred congressional investigations and changes to federal legislation.

He has won numerous awards, including a Gerald Loeb Award for business journalism, the Selden Ring Award, an Investigative Reporters and Editors award for a series on the American Red Cross.? He earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University in history and classics.

ProPublica?is a nonprofit that raised $44 million in 2022.? In addition to how a story about a charity gets researched and reported, we will discuss ProPublica's place in the nonprofit?world.

As always, those who join us will engage in an interactive, discussion-oriented format.? Doug White, a thought leader on nonprofits and philanthropy, whose most recent book is "Wounded Charity" (2019), is the moderator.
