Donna Nook
If you like cute fluffy seals then Donna Nook, on the Lincolnshire coast, is a must visit destination. Home to one of Europe's largest grey seal colonies with a population of around 3000 individuals, it is managed by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust but free to visit. Timing is essential though - for most of the year the colony is out at sea, or hauled up on sandbanks out of reach. The colony returns to Donna Nook every November and December for birthing season, at which time the mud flats and sand dunes are quite literally littered with cute balls of fluff, pregnant and birthing cows, and some squabbling bulls - all just metres from you and your camera. The sights and sounds (and smells!) are incredible, it is a glimpse into another world, and with so much new life appearing before your eyes can only be described as a truly magical place.
