Done to you or done for you?

I was talking to my meditation teacher Maharishi a little while back about forgiveness.
He said something profound and incredibly useful. Something that has been rattling around my brain ever since.
He said “it’s being done for you, not to you”.
Is that true? I’m not sure. I think mostly the world doesn’t care about me one way or the other. The weather isn’t done for me or to me. It just is. And generally other people’s actions are in the same boat.
But given we’re going to make up a story about it, how much better to make up one where it’s being done for us. Where the universe is conspiring in our favour. Where things are done for our benefit … even if we can’t see exactly how or why just yet.

3 年The universe conspiring in our favour can also be viewed as what we need to learn, which can seem a lot less clear until we have the benefit of a bit of hindsight.
