Recently I read a book by Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich - If you haven't read it then I highly recommend that you do.

He talks about goal setting, which usually makes me yawn, there are only so many times you can hear about

SMART goals!

The first time I used them was back in 1982 as a Student Nurse! ?? They were devised in 1981 apparently so back in the 80's they were inspiring!

But my brain is now tired of them....

Yes, smart has its place, just in case you are wondering

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Actionable
  • Relevant
  • Time bound

But Mr Hill looks at them in a slightly different format that got me hooked!

1 Define your Goal

Precisely, fix your mind on the exact goal for example...

'I want more clients' turns into...

  • How many?
  • How often?
  • How much are they investing?
  • By when?

2 What do you plan to give up?

What are you going to have to forgo to be able to accommodate that goal?

  • Television
  • Weekends
  • School runs

3 What is the deadline date?

The human brain works far better when we write a deadline date down, it somehow works towards it subconsciously.

4 Make a plan

Pretend each goal is a business plan and write it down

  • What you want
  • When by
  • The action plan

The biggest part of this is 'The follow through' - people usually forget what goals they have and how they were going to hit them - think New Year’s Resolutions.

5 Write a clear and concise statement

This should explain 1,2,3, and 4 in 4/5 sentences

6 Read it to yourself

  • Every morning first thing, and then last thing at night before you go to bed, this helps embed it in your subconscious mind.
  • Putting it in your phone as a reminder every hour and brainwash yourself into doing the actions!
  • Writing it on sticky notes and putting them in unexpected places
  • Use a vision board

This sounds sorted enough, but to be able to set goals and reach them here are some extra things to help.

All these can help to 'Move Mountains'

Imagination

  • Use it
  • Challenge it
  • Practice it

Have Unwavering faith in yourself

  • Build your self-confidence (having a personal brand really helps)
  • Build your self-image (Building a personal brand works for this)
  • Find others who believe in you
  • No one becomes successful without the help of others!
  • Find your team of 5 positive people

  • Remember faith is not something you were born with
  • Influence yourself by thinking very specific and purposeful thoughts
  • Use affirmations
  • Keep?your thoughts whilst going to sleep and just as you're waking up as positive as possible

Use and gain knowledge

  • Not necessarily yours but surround yourself with people who know more than you do.
  • Discover your strengths and talents.
  • Put your knowledge into action, don't just learn it for learnings sake

Keep your emotions positive

Positivity is the key to a successful life and it needs to be strengthened daily

  • Reduce the amount of news you listen to - it is made to increase our fear (bad news sells)
  • Surround yourself with positive people
  • Make a habit of checking in on your emotions
  • Look for the good in everything

Stay persistent and build your endurance

I hope you enjoy this story!

Our neighbours planted a bamboo wall!

Long before we moved in!

It looks lovely but it grows like wildfire and comes up in our lawn! The biggest problem is that it grows way quicker than grass! Sometimes I’m sure you can just sit there and watch it grow ?? I’m pretty sure they must have bought quite large plants. Why? Because anyone growing bamboo from seed has a long wait! The first year, you water and nurture it and nothing is seen. The second year, you water it and nurture it and nothing is seen. In the third year, you water and nurture it, nothing is seen. The fourth year you water and nurture it and still nothing obvious happens. The fifth year it can grow 90 feet and has an underground support and network that is impossible to get rid of! This is what setting up a new business can be like! And that makes it very tempting to give up in those first few years.

So every time you’re tempted to give up - think of bamboo, all those foundations being built, you just can’t see them!

And above all 'BE SMART and SET GOALS'

Come and have a free session with me and let's find?your goals and many other elements that form the foundations of your personal brand making it rock solid so that you can make the biggest impact in your field.

Keeping your emotions positive is a big one for me. If I'm having a down-day then it's not long before everything in front of me is looking gloomy! And that's when I walk away - go out for a walk and the new space allows for just that - SPACE!
