Dear friends and colleagues,

The last few years have been immensely challenging for communities around the globe—in some cases, setting back public health gains?by years or decades. Life expectancy in the U.S. has declined significantly over the past few years, falling from 78.8 years in 2019 to?77 in 2020?and?76.1 in 2022. Life expectancy for African American men was 61.5, nearly eight years shorter than for African American women. People in the poorest U.S. communities are 49 percent more likely to die each year than those in wealthy communities.?And the U.S. infant mortality rate recently rose for the first time in two decades, with highest rates among Black and Native American women and their infants. Today, communities are facing escalating impacts of climate change amidst ongoing crises of chronic disease, food insecurity, maternal mortality, systemic racism and more.?

But these last few years have also demonstrated what works: Sustained investments in communities, health and equity, and policy change to support them.?We've seen how community-led initiatives are centering lived experiences and community voices to advocate for lasting, meaningful health improvements.?The next generation of public health professionals is already bringing new energy, insights and ideas into the field. And around the world, multisector partnerships are finding innovative, evidence-based and scalable solutions to today's?most pressing health challenges.?Now is the time to strengthen these successes, to ensure that no community falls behind.

This giving season, we'll be highlighting some of the ways that PHI partners with communities to do just that—so stay tuned for impacts, examples and resources to help guide and inspire your work.?Make a tax-deductible donation today to help ensure that all communities are able to be healthy and thrive.

Now, more than ever, we need policies and investments to build health, equity and community power.?If done right, this work will take—and reach—each and every one of us.?Donate?today to help us build a healthier world for tomorrow.
