The need
1 in 11 disadvantaged children in the UK say that they don’t have a book of their own. Moreover, the children who say they have a book of their own are six times more likely to read above the level expected for their age, than their peers who don’t own a book (National Literacy Trust).?
Book donations
For the last 3 years Miles Kelly publishing have donated thousands of books to Business in the Community places, ( Blackpool, Bradford, Coventry, Lowestoft, Newport, Norwich, Rochdale, Sheffield and Wisbech). These have been shared with schools and nurseries in areas of disadvantage and low social mobility. This year Miles Kelly again have kindly offered 20,000 books at a very generous discount, with 2,500 allocated for Sheffield. We are working with all the school trusts across the city to ensure these books reach the kids that will benefit the most and that they receive a festive gift that really makes a difference.
