Donate to Hacks/Hackers and help us hold more hackathons and events in 2025

By Burt Herman , co-founder, Hacks/Hackers

Over the past 12 months, Hacks/Hackers has helped thousands of journalists understand and adopt generative AI in their newsrooms. Throughout 2024, we’ve hosted regular panels and webinars, and have worked with partners to host eight in-person hackathons, ideathons and workshops all over the country where people working in media collaborated to build new tools.

In 2025 the need for our work will only become greater. The continuing rapid evolution of powerful new technologies — combined with the anticipation of new deregulation by the incoming U.S. administration — all demonstrates that disruption is a feature, not a bug, of the media and information sector.

All our events are free, both online and in-person. We are able to keep them free because of generous supporters who want to make sure as many people as possible will benefit.

If you have attended one of our events, we would be grateful for you to think about the value you got out of in terms of the learnings, connections and tasty food and to consider a donation to help keep these events free for others.

We founded Hacks/Hackers in 2009 as a meetup for journalists and technologists to improve the quality of media. Since then, our non-profit organization has brought together people from diverse backgrounds in order to spark collaborations, incubate media projects and then scale solutions across every level of the media ecosystem: journalism, platforms, communities, verification, fact checking and reader experience.

Hacks/Hackers will continue to empower journalists, technologists, thinkers and entrepreneurs to be ahead of the curve and be at the forefront of innovation, working together to foster trust, and build spaces where people can share their knowledge and connect with others.

We hope you will support us this giving season. Thank you and best wishes for the year ahead,

Burt Herman, Co-founder, Hacks/Hackers
