Donald Trump's call to end Due Process for immigrants

Breaking News: Controversial Donald Trump Tweet

Yesterday morning Donald Trump tweeted a highly controversial tweet, stating “We cannot allow all of these people to invade our country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no judges or court cases, bring them back from where they came. Our system is a mockery to goof immigration policy and Law and Order. Most children come without parents… Our immigration policy, laughed at all over the world, is very unfair to all of those people who have gone through the system legally and are waiting on line for years! Immigration must be based on merit- we need people who will help to Make America Great Again!”.

This tweet has provoked much disagreement from many Americans, who express their outrage at a president calling for due process to be eliminated in deportation cases. According to the Supreme Court case Zadvydas v. Davis (2001): “the Due Process Clause applies to all persons within the United States, including aliens, whether their presence is lawful, unlawful, temporary, or permanent”.

Not only do Trump’s proposals in this tweet violate a United States constitutional protection, but they are also heartless and immoral. The Due Process protection is a part of what separates the United States from fascist governments. Contrary to Trump’s statements, we have a moral duty to do everything we can to ensure this protection remains in place for all people.
