Don Lemon, Women in their 50's are definitely in their prime

Full disclosure, I'm a fan of Don Lemon and often watch CNN. I love that he has been able to show his more authentic self and I appreciate his sense of style. But yesterday, he broke my heart a little by declaring that women over 50 are "past their prime". It is something I hope he can learn from and continue on in his career with CNN.
Of course, the problem is not Don Lemon. It is the fact that society views women over 50 as past their prime and that he was able to find/google those facts. This narrative simply is not true, and I'm asking the many accomplished and thriving "over 50" women I know, to speak up and to create our own narrative.
In my 50's, I've created a thriving consulting business, I volunteer with charities and help to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for food security and last summer I hiked 200 km of rocky terrain through the Cele Valley and rural France with another "midlife" female friend. I feel like I'm just getting to know myself and that I'm only getting started - definitely in my "prime". And doing it all while I take the time to put on make up every day so I fit societal views of "prime"...
So, women over 50 - help take control of the narrative and tell us why you are in your prime? #over50inmyprime #midlife #midlifewomen #midcareer

2 年It’s a simple comment needed ! Lemon the name , suits him ! The human brain is not fully matured until age 25! No more comment needed .. but as Newt Gingrich once said “ but I will “. Women and men for that matter .. most don’t have a clue who they are or what they want to be! Many are still in university.. trying to find their way ! Many still live at home ! There are many in their 40s still trying to figure life out .. Hmmmmm I bet he would prefer giggling kackling moronic kamala Harris over Nikki Haley .. ( obv ).. let’s see how old she is…. 58!!! So Dawn leMAUN .. is she past her prime ?? She has your vote , right ? Not the first time he has shown himself to be an absolute idiot.. I have given more than enough of my time to this matter but I will say that he is way past his prime in every way !

2 年Wow, Jill that is so unfair! No one would ever say that about a man! After 50 I moved from Tier 2 to Tier 1 as a partner and I’m not past my prime or my best before date! I feel like I’m just hitting my stride and finally realizing my own self worth.

2 年I’ll play. From the age of 50, I was promoted into a new leadership role at an amazing firm where I’m growing and developing my expertise in KM, legal tech and learning and development; am raising two active elementary school aged children; am providing support to my elderly parents; have started to take golf lessons; am constantly enhancing my cooking and baking skills. I have lots more to do!

2 年Hadn’t seen or heard these sexist and ageist comments yet, Jill Mayer Thanks for raising this. Agree with Lina Duque, MBA these are outrageous comments. From 50 onwards I was developing and helping to launch a new law school while co-delivering a pathway for hundreds of future lawyers to become licensed; ran a couple of 5km and 10km races; supported my ailing parents in their final years; invited to be an Advisor for two professional organizations; and then launched my coaching and consulting practice. And I’m far from done yet! As I know so many other talented and amazing women aren’t either: Kathy Caprino , Vicki Bradley Susan Sommers, Bonnie Marcus , Donna E. Young Laleh Moshiri, Dal Bhathal …to name but a few!

2 年The idea that women have an expiry date is outrageous, absurd and sexist. Women should never accept this notion because it’s only when we do that’s when society does. Thanks for speaking up Jill!
