Domino's uses ML from AWS for predictive ordering.
Domino,s Pizza Enterprises Limited (Domino’s) , top global pizza business, which is the largest Domino’s franchise holder, represents the Domino’s brand in Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Luxembourg, and Denmark. They say that more than 70% orders are through online so they need to deliver it fast for customer satisfaction. They are in need of a technology to predict the orders so that avoid delay so that they can make their customers more satisfied and they can come again.
“Our investment in technology is a key ingredient to our growth as a business.” -Michael Gillespie, chief digital and technology officer for Domino’s.
The company launched project called 3TEN - this is an initiative to have pizza ready in 3 minutes and will be ordered within 10 minutes. For this they changed thier cooking methods and tranportation more efficient and also opened more stores nearby customers but for this they also need an technology to predict the orders or what the customer wants.
Accurate and predictive ordering using AWS :
Domino's need the help of AWS Max Kelsen, an Advanced Consulting Partner in AWS Partner Network (APN), for predicting what will be ordered next. Gillespie said that they knew they needed a smart, accurate system, and they liked what they saw in AWS machine learning technologies ,they knew that by using AWS services they could develop a solution that would give their stores a glimpse into the future by predicting what pizzas would be ordered next.
Services they used:
Amazon Simple Storage Device (Amazon S3) - for data storage
AWS Glue - for data Quering
Amazon SageMaker - to build and train machine learning models to predict the orders
Placing Orders within 10 minutes :
AWS has helped them to reduce the time taken for door step delivery. In 2019, a Domino’s store in Australia averaged delivery times of under 5 minutes, from order to doorstep, across an entire week. Another advantage is that franchisees don’t need to spend much time being trained.
"Customers are getting their pizza faster, hotter, and fresher because of the improvements we’ve put into place with Project 3TEN. The predictive ordering solution we developed by using AWS is a big part of that.” - Gillespie.
Benefits of using AWS :
- Pizza delivery in 10 minutes or less
- Accurate, predictive ordering made easy
- Fast, easy deployment for franchisees
