My Uncle Turned Me into a Reinforcement Learning Machine!
It all began on a chilly Saturday morning after a grueling week at work, leaving me eager for some relaxation. I decided to visit my uncle, a wise soul of 57, and little did I know that this day would unveil a powerful data revelation.
As I arrived, my uncle proposed a game of dominoes. Now, I must confess, I'd never played or even heard of this game before. I asked him to teach me the rules, but he had a different idea. "Let's just start playing," he said, "and I'll teach you as we go along." With a curious spirit, I agreed, not fully comprehending the adventure that awaited.
Our dominoes game began, and at first, I expected clear instructions and guidance from my uncle. To my surprise, he simply played his pieces, and I fumbled to keep up. I couldn't figure out why I had to place the domino pieces vertically or horizontally, and my initial moves were riddled with errors.

Yet, as we continued, a fascinating transformation occurred. I started observing my uncle's moves, learning from his actions, and deciphering the patterns. It suddenly clicked in my mind: you place a dominoes piece horizontally if the dots are all the same color and vertically if they have different colors but at least one color matches the preceding piece. In that "aha" moment, I started winning rounds, and for the first time, I emerged victorious after four trials.
My uncle, a dominoes maestro since the tender age of six, was genuinely astonished. We played a total of ten games, and I clinched victory in three, while he dominated with seven wins.
It struck me like a bolt of lightning, what had occurred in that moment is nothing short of what we call "reinforcement learning." Just as machines are on a constant quest for knowledge, we humans are perpetual learners. This experience illuminated that reinforcement learning is a journey, not a destination. I'm convinced that with continued dominoes practice, I might eventually outshine my uncle, a true legend in the game.
This experience is a testament to the parallel worlds of data science and everyday life, where the lines between humans and machines blur. The Data Living journey continues, unraveling the mysteries of data.
