"Domestic Abuse shows no discrimination and can happen to anyone at any time"
Safeguarding Associates for Excellence
Safeguarding Associates for Excellence (SAFE) prides itself on providing up to date and enriched training.
According to the Office of National Statistics, each year nearly 2 million people in the UK suffer some form of domestic abuse - 1.3 million female victims (8.2% of the population) and 600,000 male victims (4%).
Each year more than 100,000 people in the UK are at high and imminent risk of being murdered or seriously injured as a result of domestic abuse. Women are much more likely than men to be the victims of high risk or severe domestic, notably two women a week are murdered in the UK and one man every six weeks.
Due to the prevalence of Domestic Abuse in UK society and around the world, our trainers Pete Henderson and Ed Carney have observed the effects of Domestic Abuse on service users in first light and are committed to empowering professionals to support service users in an informed response.
The key point in understanding Domestic abuse is that it can happen to anyone irrespective of race, gender, or sexual orientation. It is vital that front line professionals never make assumptions about their service users, colleagues or family. Particularly as Coercive Control is a subtle and often permissive pattern that is difficult to identify.?
Ed and Pete have been practising in the field of Criminal Justice and Domestic Violence for over thirty years. They are seasoned professionals with experience of front facing interventions in both prevention and response services to Domestic Abuse (Local Authority and Probation).
We at SAFE along with Ed and Pete have launched our 'Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control Awareness' course, this virtual 1 day scheduled for the 28th April 2023 is best placed for those who are in contact with service users who may present as being impacted by perceived coercion or abusive behaviours. The training seeks to unpick those uncertainties.?Domestic abuse shows no discrimination and can happen to anyone at any time, it is on this basis that misconceptions are generated. We seek to employ an engaging and insightful lens into both victim response and the perpetrator’ motives behind their behaviour.
