Dome Living: An Artist's Perspective

As an artist and a designer, it has been such a pleasure to live in a geodesic dome and I am so honored to have it featured in Next Pittsburgh!
Aside from the wow factor (and the Dr. Who *bigger-on-the-inside* factor), the benefits of dome living have been so many. Originally designed to withstand natural disasters whilst being eco-friendly, Buckminster Fuller had a future in mind that any artist interested in sustainability would love to be part of. I've always been a fan (see photo below including tv stand made of my neighbor's broken Ikea bookcase and finished with hand-cut and coffee-dipped wood veneer hexes).
I'm sure anyone with the artistic bug knows what it's like to want to turn your living space into a creative oasis... Now imagine living under an expanse of gravity-defying triangles that turn architecture into art. Doing it justice has been a test of creative dedication. Here's hoping Buckminster Fuller is proud.
