Dollars are Just the Pacifier

Dollars are Just the Pacifier

Recently, I was speaking with @Cheryl Miller, SPHR, about #trust in healthcare organizations. Cheryl is an HR#executive who has experience in large healthcare systems. She has seen procedures and strategies that work vs those that don't. She said something that really struck a chord with me. She said, “Dollars are just the pacifier, not what makes people stay.” She then went on to say that dollars will fix some issues, making people stay short term. It is never a long-term solution.

This fits with what I’ve learned from members of the C-suite. @Esther Wildenberg has told me repeatedly that #relationships are the key to staffing problems. If you don't have a relationship with your staff members, they aren't going to follow you. They aren't going to stay.

I agree with these statements. I also believe that #corporateculture plays a huge role. Culture includes knowing when to throw money at a problem, how much, and when not to do so. It includes knowing your staff and having a good or great relationship with them. It's also much more. It's building an environment of safety. This means that there are safe avenues for difficult conversations and feedback. It means that people don't feel threatened at work. They don't have to spend their time worrying about when a colleague or administrator is going to stab them in the back. This includes avoiding moral trauma.

Achieving these culture points starts with #effectivecommunication . At Beat Down Burnout, we have successful, proven system for this that is backed by science. It's based on personality science and raising one's #EQ . We get predictable, positive results with our easily implementable techniques. Many of my clients are able to implement these tools in 1-2 days of starting training. We've seen lasting result in staff retention. We've helped B2B clients communicate better with healthcare customers. We've battled burnout, anxiety and overwhelm.
