Dolce & Gabbana fashion show: a celebration of Puglia's savoir-faire
"We started thinking about this event last July while we were still immersed in the one in Syracuse. For the haute couture fashion show, in particular, we immediately thought of Alberobello, but the idea of having the models walk through the narrow streets of the town, with a grand finale in the square, slowly took shape"
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana told il Sole 24 ore. And indeed, the show was spectacular, with the models strutting on a temporary catwalk set up in the alleys of Rione Monti, an open-air catwalk amidst the unmistakable trulli of Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage site since December 7, 1996. Adding to the allure, citizens/actors appeared, called upon by the designer duo to portray themselves or ancient professions, in a celebration of the ancient savoir-faire of these places.
Dolce & Gabbana deserve credit for portraying an incredible culture through Haute Couture that not only exudes preciousness but also authenticity, with a real celebration of the Made in Italy label. In fact, in this case, it's Made in Puglia.
