Doing The Opposite with Jeff Dewing

Doing The Opposite with Jeff Dewing

It has been another busy month which I couldn’t be more grateful for. It has been all systems go with no signs of slowing down so let’s have a recap of the month that’s passed.

The Cloudfm Group partner with The Rank Group to create a united front on ESG.

This partnership has been in the works for a while so it was incredible to be able to announce it officially in March.

The Rank Group have some ambitious ESG goals and we are set up to hit the ground running with them to achieve their goals and reduce carbon emissions.

Over the next three years Cloudfm will support the Group’s 51 Grosvenor Casinos and 56 Mecca Bingo venues in the UK. Cloudfm will provide a full range of planned and reactive facilities management services and deploy its Mindsett PRISM? energy management technology.

This is the first time we will see our Mindsett PRISM? rolled out on such a large scale. It is exciting to be able to deploy some of the most advanced technology in the market alongside a national network of skilled engineers.

This partnership between the two groups is uniquely positioned to maximise operational efficiency, deliver a great customer experience and reduce carbon emissions.

Mathew Austin, Rank’s Group Property Director, spoke about the announcement in a press release:

“We set out some ambitious goals in our latest ESG report with the aim to invest in efficient and responsible operations to reduce our impact on the environment. Our new partnership with Cloudfm will help us accelerate our carbon reduction plans across our estate.

Cloudfm technology gives a granular view of energy use in real-time and provides a framework to change behaviours that benefit the environment.”

Be on the lookout for the exciting outcomes of this partnership.

We were on the road in March, all the way to sunny Malta.

Recently I have embarked on what has been a long-term, ongoing ambition in delivering keynote speeches and strategic workshops, all with the aim of passing on entrepreneurial wisdom.

Having delivered such talks across the UK and Portugal, I had the incredible opportunity to deliver several workshops for Vistage Malta. Over the five days, I spoke to such fun, interesting, and engaged groups that I came away with a new lease on life!

The purpose of the talks was to get attendees to think about attracting and retaining top talent, like most other things in life it’s all about how you make people feel.

One business I had the privilege of speaking to was Franks, a high-end perfumery with stores around the island. To me, they have nailed recruitment and retention by highlighting the most important thing to them on their signage, energy.

When I met with their senior team I delivered a unique workshop ‘Recruitment & Retention on Steroids’. What I witnessed in our time together was great leadership, great vision, and the desire to make people happy.

While I am still riding high from my time in Malta I am equally looking forward to some upcoming speaking events. I will be delivering a talk at the Lisbon Energy Summit in May along with a keynote at the Vistage European Summit this coming November.

‘Doing the Opposite: Business Disruptors’ Season Three

Season Three of my podcast is well underway. This season we wanted to stay true to our core purpose and do things a little differently. We not only welcomed the usual caliber of guests who are proven disruptors in their areas of business and leadership, but we also introduced a new episode format in the form of panel discussions.

These panel episodes opened the opportunity to host important discussions with a range of experts. We open the floor to topics such as ESG, the interaction between sustainability and business, and the future of the workplace. The debates on these topics between my guests is always fascinating to witness and be involved in.

Outside of the panel talks of course we had some incredibly influential individuals take part over the last few weeks. Most recently I had the privilege of welcoming Nazir Afzal OBE; Chancellor of the University of Manchester, and former Chief Crown Prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service. He was the chief executive of the Association of Police and crime commissioners and is also a member of the Independent Press Standards Organisation Complaints Committee.

We had an intense discussion on the driving force behind Nazir’s career, what strategies he employs to be able to take on the establishment, and what the mindset is like with leaders in the public sector.

You can listen free to all episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you pick up your favourite podcasts or online here: https://podcast.cloudfmgroup.com/

We also film our episodes so you can see our guests in action as they talk about their passions, you can see that footage on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@jeffdewing4457

Featured In: March

This month I was fortunate to have been kept busy with several podcast appearances and articles. Here is a roundup of some of the standout pieces.

I spoke with Manufacturing Digital about taking control of your business's scope three emissions and what Net Zero goals we need to be looking at. I outline the importance of businesses working closely with their suppliers to identify and implement emission-reducing technologies and practices.

I also talk about gamification techniques and how they will educate, mobilise, and support the supply chain.

A very exciting podcast I had the opportunity to be a part of was ‘My Wake-Up Call’ hosted by Dr. Mark Goulston.

Originally a UCLA professor of psychiatry for over 25 years, and a former FBI and police hostage negotiation trainer, Dr. Mark Goulston’s expertise has been forged and proven in the crucible of real-life, high-stakes situations. He is the author or co-author of nine books with his book, “Just Listen,” being translated into twenty-eight languages and becoming the top book on listening in the world.

We talk about what my wake-up call was and how losing everything led me to rebuild something even greater.

There are more exciting features to come so make sure to keep your eyes peeled in April.

As always I welcome questions, comments, and challenges on everything I put out into the world so make sure you reach out, post a comment below, or drop me a message if you have any thoughts. Speak to you all next month.
