Doing more with less

We all want to be able to do more with less on our businesses. Less time, less resources, less people, etc. and still get the same or better results.?
But somewhere along the way we get stuck and end up with the opposite. Why? Because people are creatures of habit.
Let’s look at Sue at ABC Company as an example. Sue has been the Office Manager for 5 years. She knows her job inside and out, she is a tremendous asset to the company. As the company has grown you (the owner) have hired additional team members to support Sue and to take on other essential roles. But somewhere along the way things have started to feel a bit backwards. With your growth only so much additional work is necessary, but your team is still maxed out, including Sue. Here’s what’s happened.?
Throughout the years Sue (and your other team members) have learned how to bandaid some of the less ideal systems, clients and software in your business. They have established (sometimes elaborate) workarounds for inefficient processes, people and constraints. However, over time those workarounds become habits and those habits become the new inefficiencies and limitations on your business and you end up needing more (time, resources, people) in order to be able to do more.?
How do we change this??
If this sounds simple, it’s because at a high-level it is. Digging in and finding the inefficiencies, root causes and underlying issues - not so easy, but well worth your time.

2 年I've definitely been guilty of making things harder than they should be so I appreciate the tips on how to simplify things Dafne. Where does someone start with an audit or identify where patches have been put in place?

2 年Dafne Tsakiris like how you've taken the phrase "doing more with less!?", which could be interpreted as a negative, and explained the big benefits of establishing processes for your team/employees. Really you might as well write- Do More With a Process but it would not have been half as creative and engaging! Brainstorms can open a can of worms (although I love ideas)- what kind of guidelines do you provide for a brainstorm around an inefficient process?

2 年Okay, my eyes wandered to Dana Pharant's comment and--darnit!--that is what I wish I had thought of FIRST!!! So I am copying it. My clients need you and I'll take care of the other stuff. I guess I want to know what stops them from realizing your value, also. I invested in a consultant to set up systems for me but, unfortunately, it was only a piece of the puzzle. If only I had known that... Systems are where it's AT! Thank you, Dafne Tsakiris! Great ideas!
