Doing The Hard Things To Achieve Your Goals

Doing The Hard Things To Achieve Your Goals

Welcome back to the LIFT by Body Talk newsletter, where you can learn how to achieve your goals by LIFTing others.?

Here you will gain insights and top tips from another new project: the LIFT podcast! Leadership is not about power or status, but about serving and transforming how people feel or perform. My guests will help show you how to achieve this as easily as possible.?

Recently on the LIFT Podcast, I met with Jamie Hess: wellness mentor, TV personality, certified nutrition coach, and co-creator of the popular Instagram account @NYCfitfam. She and her husband George share tips on fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, and parenting with their 150,000+ followers.

During the pandemic, Jamie shifted both her podcast and her Instagram to focus on wellness—particularly quarantine wellness. When there’s so much out of your control, it’s more important than ever to focus on what you can control: how you take care of yourself.

At Body Talk, we noticed a big shift from teaching people how to communicate face to face to suddenly helping people cope with stress, feeling disconnected, and connecting with their mindset.

“If you are not paying extra attention to your mindfulness, to your mental health, you will suffer.”

Plenty of leaders and influencers emphasise the importance of fitness. What makes Jamie different is, she shares that she doesn’t always want to get up, get out of bed, or do difficult things. She works really hard to make fitness fun.?

How does Jamie do it?

“It’s not about always being motivated, it’s being committed. It’s being disciplined.”

Jamie has five pillars to success that she aligns with chakras:

  1. Get grounded. This aligns with your root chakra. What do you want to achieve? What is standing in your way??
  2. This is when you connect with your fire within: purpose, power, and confidence. It’s connected to your solar plexus. Build achievable habits, stay disciplined, and stick with them.?
  3. Now, you need to buddy up. Find a partner to help you with accountability. This aligns with both the heart chakra and the throat chakra. People struggle to ask for help for two reasons: fear and ego. You have to learn to speak your truth. You have to ask for help.?
  4. Manifest your goals. This aligns with your intuition or your third eye. There have been countless studies about the power of manifesting. Speak your goals into reality.?
  5. Lastly, become limitless. Jamie wants to take everyone from feeling limited to feeling limitless. This aligns with your crown chakra. Remind yourself how great you will feel on the other side of all of the positive steps you’re taking.?

“If nothing changes, nothing changes.”

Jamie’s focus is on fitness, but these pillars can be applied to any aspect of your life. Her ultimate goal is to help people lift themselves so that they can lift others. Sounds familiar!

Thank you for this thoughtful list. I provided several other tools that we can use during our workday in my latest book, "The Mindful Marketer." Breathwork, setting intentions, and visualization align well with Jamie's 5 tips. (Happy to forward a sample chapter if you're interested - themindfulmarketer.com.
