Doing great work—on purpose.

Nobody wants to work for a company just to make money anymore. Don’t get me wrong; money is important—and necessary for a business to be successful.?
But making money should be the outcome of doing great work. And great work happens when a company is united behind a purpose.?
The truth is, it’s difficult to establish a meaningful purpose, and harder still to live up to it. And the organizations who don’t do this work, who don’t find their purpose and find ways to bring it to life, will always fall short of their full potential.?
A company’s purpose needs to be connected to something real. It needs to be something that individuals inside the organization can relate to, no matter their job title. I see too many companies establish massive, aspirational goals that they either aren’t equipped to achieve, or that doesn’t actually resonate with their team members.?
Conversely, if your organization’s purpose truly galvanizes your team, you’ll see the impact it has on productivity—and by extension, your bottom line.?
When an individual feels connected to something bigger, they become more determined to contribute towards that purpose. They become more accountable. They want to do better.
Leaders need to demonstrate that they’re serious about their organization’s purpose and lead by example by doing the right thing—even when it hurts. They need to tell the stories of how the business is living its purpose and celebrate the employees who are doing their part.?
At heart, most people want more out of a job than simply punching in and punching out. They want to feel as though they're making a meaningful difference in the world. If we’re guided by the right purpose, anything is possible.

2 年Absolutely love this and couldn’t agree more. Employees today want to be more than a number - they want to live the purpose and value they bring to an organization. It still surprises me when Boards and senior leaders still don’t get it. It’s a crime! Your passion and purpose is always there Wellington Holbrook - keep it real

2 年I couldn't agree more. And when people are able to find a company and a team that aligns with their own personal values and purpose, wow, work is no longer "work". That's when the magic happens.
