Doing Business on the Edge

Doing Business on the Edge

The Internet of Things is here. Are you ready? Is your data center ready? Is your remote location ready?

Companies are increasingly employing a large variety of IoT (Internet of Things) devices that produce vast amounts of data. The data that is produced from these devices delivers absolutely game-changing business insights. We undeniably live in a world much different than we did ten years ago, and progress will only get faster.

Currently, IoT data is gathered, transmitted from the LAN at the remote location through an encrypted VPN tunnel over the WAN and finally to the DataCenter. After all this, it can be analyzed and transformed into an actionable insights. In any business time to action is always critical.

What if, instead of having to transmit data from your local IoT appliances all the way back to the datacenter, you could create actionable insights at the edge level of your network? How much could that reduce your time to action? What if your business was conducted at the edge? How much more agile could your business be?

This is why I am intrigued by HPE's new EdgeLine, revealed at Discover earlier this year.

See the below video for a quick discussion on the capabilities of the new EdgeLine systems.

This is fascinating! I've never heard of IoT prior to reading your article. I found a great TEDx Talk that breaks this down brilliantly (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaTIt1C5R-M). With the ability to reduce data transmission, among other benefits, I can certainly see this Edge Layer technology becoming a key player for future IoT architecture. Thank you for posting!
