Doing Business in China.

After 6 years of living in China, I have learned a few things about doing business in China. This article will help you understand some basic rules about engaging Chinese businesses and open the door to an incredible and fruitful business market.

Relationships - doing business in China requires trust and relationships. Learning some basic Mandarin, learning about the local history and customs, and developing a tolerance to Baijiu will help you bridge the cultural gaps that often slow business relationships. Having a local contact will also help to make proper introductions to decision makers and influencers.

Negotiations - understanding price points. Contracts in China are as important to manufacturers and suppliers as other countries. However, effective negotiations begin with a healthy discussion on Price first, followed by quality, service, and other expectations.  Usually contracts and other negotiations follow customary dinners and entertainment activities designed to build trust among designated representatives.

Win - Win Strategies - Chinese companies are interested in profitable and long-term relationships. As the Chinese economy continues to grow, concerns about labor, raw materials, energy, regulations, and competition are some examples of topics to discuss and research before engaging.
