Doing and Being

To do better you have a million and one thing to do.
You can study more, work harder, increase your committment, augment your focus and believe with all your heart that you will make it. You need some planning and goal setting and so on.
We have all heard that times and times again. It is safe to say that we know that.
However, if you want to be better, the answer may not the one that you want to hear because you can't.
There is no better version of you to be obtained for the simple reason that this idea comes from the broken you that you wish to fix.
You are so intelligent and committed that if there was something to do you would have done it already. This will to fix, to improve, comes from inner motivations that you can't see but they are there, behind the scenes, making you think that it is what you really want.
The problem with your motivations is that they have really no intention to fix themselves.
From the motivations perspective, fixing equates to disappearing, killing themselves.
They surely do not want to do that and will stay until you identify with the one wanting to fix them. Can you see the game?
By wanting to be better you are confirming your hidden sense of lack that makes you think that you have to be fixed and the worst part of it, is that the fixing comes through a doing!
So, if motivations are hidden and there is nothing that one can do, am I saying that we are doomed?
The reality is that most of us are but that doesn't mean that you have to be.
Ask yourself these questions:
What is left of me without my CV?
What does motivate me and why?
What would be left of me without my partner?
Get the point?
If you take away your job title, your prestige, your motivstions, your partner and still you know who you are you have understood that you are beyond what you do and what you get.
Wanting to be better means not accepting what is, because you are comparing to a "better" version... where does this better version comes from? Who or what has given that to you?
Whether we like it or not we are mostly driven by second hand thoughts and these have no power to light the spark within you, me or anyone.
That spark, requires no cause, it is the cause. It requires no reason, it is the reason.
Thoughts make every possible effort in order to feel as the thinking "I" but the real "I" does not need to demonstrate that it exist because is the very life that does not belong to you or I but to the entire universe altogether.
The fake "I" wants to be better because it is not able to see that it is already all there is. It is looking with the wrong eyes to the wrong place.
The problems that you are trying to fix are the "entities" that are doing the thinking on your behalf. How can they serve you right? You are so much larger than any of your products.
Get your hands dirty to do and keep your brain clean to be....and enjoy your spark in action.
Thoughts?

4 年Love the notion of what you wrote. Currently, I'm listening to a lot of Eckart Tolle, who talks about the power of the now and the letting go of the ego - neither of them is particularly easy I find - we're so conditioned to worry about the future or dwell in the past. You mention accepting how things are - I believe that's exactly it - surrendering (not necessarily finding it great) to the situation - which allows then to open possibilities. I also agree that in our core we are all enough and we don't need to look for a "better" version of ourselves. What we can do though is to find out who we really are in this core - which will automatically shift some of our behaviours (the doing). In essence: more being, less doing would be a blessing for many of us.

4 年The real 'I' is all that matters and not the projected or ascribed one that is identified with, almost always at an unconscious level. Though one can get involved with work, titles, materialistic aspects etc., but remaining unaffected or submerged with or pull in to those, and staying connected with the real 'I' in each moment is what truly matters. Great article Dino Carella!

4 年There is a lot of tension here for many people because it seems like the entire world is telling us to continously strive to something else. That simply being is not enough.
