In Dogs We Trust

Artwork for fundraising

Last year, I met up with Jennifer Mary Jones at The London Book Fair, who is the Author of The Poetry Song Book. After working together on a sketchnote, we teamed up on this fundraising project. Jennifer is running the London Marathon this year for the Dogs Trust and wanted to do something creative to fundraise in the build up to the event.

The creative fundraising idea

We came up with the idea to create three limited edition pieces of artwork as a tiered gift for donations:

  • A bookmark from Jessie for £10 donations
  • A thank you card from Wilma for £20 donations
  • An A4 In Dogs We Trust print for £30 donations

After making a donation through Jennifer’s fundraising page, you can email [email protected] to arrange the postage of your artwork.

Creating the artwork

When Jennifer brought Wilma home from Dogs Trust Basildon, her life changed for the better… and the addition of Jessie doubled the joy! If you know me, you know I LOVE dogs and dote on our characterful cairnoodle, Daisy.

Of course, all three dogs had to feature in the wall art for this creative campaign. We started with the bigger piece of artwork, then broke it down into the card and bookmark. I worked on drawing a cosy home for Wilma, Jessie, and Daisy to snuggle on the sofa together. I added yellow to tie in with the Dogs Trust branding, and Jen had the wonderful idea of incorporating something to represent ‘fixing the cracks’ of kintsugi, a metaphor for Dogs Trust mending broken hearts with gold. See the golden cracks on the black lamp. All three pieces combine my illustrations with Jen’s beautiful words.

Feeling inspired?

If you’re looking for fundraising ideas, consider creating your own artwork and repurposing your art to sell, auction, or gift with donations. If you’re stuck for ideas, join an arTEA break session. My upcoming session on Fri 21st Feb 2025 (12pm - 12:40pm, UK time, online) is themed around puppy love and marathons in honour of Jen’s fundraising efforts for the Dogs Trust.
