DOGE is Firing Government Contractors - Here's What You Can Do to Survive?

DOGE is Firing Government Contractors - Here's What You Can Do to Survive?

Last week, FedScoop alerted us to a mass purging of large prime contractors, eliminating $65B in 2025 contract dollars already awarded.

The impact on small businesses will be staggering as well, when you assume 30% ($19.5B) of large contracts usually is subcontracted to smalls.

That's 195,000 jobs lost based on $100K/year salary.

Every Federal Contract is Under Review

DOGE has ordered agencies to review and justify every current contract.

Any that can't be rationalized as 'essential' to that agency's mission must be cancelled for the convenience of the government.

This is a massive purge of contracts. And it is horrifying to industry as the mass firings are to federal employees.

This is also, the new norm under the Trump Administration and through DOGE.

Steps to Save Your Contracts From DOGE

I'm doing free trainings here on LinkedIn each day, to provide guidance for protecting your current contracts. (Register below)

Here's what I'll be teaching on. I recommend you do this immediately.

  1. Align the contract and your work with the agency's mission priorities
  2. Use mission-critical language in any reports or '5 things last week' bullets
  3. Engage with your KO, COR, and Program Managers to document why contract is essential
  4. Demonstrate how your contract is cost effective and delivers on efficiency
  5. Have someone in your company be DOGE - try to kill your own contract while colleagues defend
  6. If you're a subcontractor, lead this for your prime if they're not. Don't wait for them.

Team, I’m getting some calls about DOT opportunities in the VA area. Anyone know how this is happening?

Great post, Neil McDonnell. It is important to be proactive and also be able to "pivot" to align your company with the focus of the current administration.
