It doesn't always go to plan...
Something on my mind this week especially as many people want to tell the world about all the cool things they're doing and let's be fair, this is me too!
It doesn't always go to plan though and we should be more open about that. Life, work, business and leadership isn't always plan sailing and as the saying goes (I think!), it's not what happens it's how you respond.
A few recent incident in my world and apologies if you've been impacted. It's all totally my fault!
Bringing down my Aspire Adventures email for a week!
I wanted to launched a new Aspire Adventures website but as part of the transition it needed to be moved from another hosting platform and for those who know that means some stuff around email also. Those who know me know I'm very impatient. A lot of effort went in to the new site and I wanted to share it with the world!
"Yeah, yeah, no worries just do that change and then I'm sure it'll sort itself out" is not the right attitude. Some things didn't change, email went down and I didn't realise for about a week assuming that the quietness was me being an admin God! Nope!
Sorry everyone!
Collapsing the Aspire Leadership Academy straight after launch!
There is a theme forming here!
A lot of work went in to creating the content, back end structure and ensuring it was a seamless process from purchase to access. Well it was until this fat fingered buffoon started having a look around. I was so happy especially due to the Covid relating pivoting and it looked good. The Aspire Leadership Academy was ALIVE!
"Jason, DO NOT go in to the back end and look. Don't even log-in. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING" was like a red rag to a bull. First person purchased within about 15mins of the launch and I just HAD to go and have a look.
Nope, that didn't end well.
I seemed to change something and brought the whole lot down. Whoops!
Sorry again!

Forgot to mention sleeping bags!
I'd arranging a corporate team development session and the theme was "back to basics" so we had some really low key accommodation and it needed people to bring their own sleeping bags.
For the life of me I couldn't remember if I'd told people to bring their own sleeping bags. I know it was mentioned in the link to the accommodation but I tend to mention critical things multiple times as some people may not listen on the first attempt at information sharing.
I was mortified but I just couldn't remember. I sweated on this all day. Did I have enough kit?
It was about an hour from their arrival and I had a total meltdown. I called my pal who runs a kit shop in the village and he loaned me 25 sleeping bags on a "use and pay for basis" which is totally legendary.
As people rolled up they all had their bags. It was in my comms but I just couldn't either remember or see it.
Thankfully it would have all ended okay, thanks to relationships with businesses around me, and that error has never been made again!
Sorry (to me!)!
Things don't go to plan and that's okay.
Shit happens!
Perfection is presented across social media under the pretence that it's what we want to see.
Personally I want reality.
Reality is real.
Be cool my friends...

2 年Love this post Jason. I'm totally with you on this. Being real and transparent is so much more authentic than a filter or manufactured photo. In your case you've highlighted the boo-boos but you've also shown you've learnt from them. All in all it shows your strength and resilience. ??
