Does Your Team Seek Help From You?
A young girl was crossing a forest with her father. She came across a fallen branch of tree on the way.
She asked her father, "Dad, can I move this branch?"
Her father replied, "yes, you can if you use all your strength. Girl tried hard but could not move the branch even an inch.
Girl turned back towards her father to ask, "Dad, I can't move it". Her father with an affectionate gaze said, "You can if you use all your strength."
The young girl tried with full strength again but couldn't move the branch.
She asked her father again, "Dad, I can't move it...". Father replied, "Honey, you can and I asked you to use your full strength but you didn't ask for my help. I'm also your strength. I'm your strength being here and in fact, always.
Many times, we don't seek help from others because we either don't have trust or we consider it as a sign of weakness.
Question to ponder - Does your team seek help from you? Does people seek help from each other in the team?

4 年Thank you somuch for sharing such a fantastic story to drive across a thought provoking message that united we stand and decided we fall. I keep sharing with my MBA students that when we all stop competing with each other and instead start collaborating there would be celebration. There’s so much for everyone on this karmabhumi and no need to feel envy for each other. Given the competitive environment we are in today , we need high performing teams and we notice three things in common among them : intellectual diversity, psychological safety and a purpose worth fighting for. Let the managers and leaders focus on them .

4 年I really liked the way the thought is being articulated. I feel if we can ask for help from other team members it will help in reducing the stress and everyone will be involved in the process. Further, it will increase the group cohesiveness which will promote the culture of collaboration than competition.

4 年Great Read! It's all about self-reflection & reflection coming from others. It's important to see and explore the assistance from the ecosystem, it's just about seeing it rightly. :)
