Does Your Soul Need a New Ride?

It’s never too late to find your calling and realize your soul’s true desire. Never. But first, you have to stop placing the focus on the vehicle for your dreams over the vision of your dreams. You know the vehicles—

“I’m too old.”

“I don’t have the right degree.”

“I don’t know the right people.”

“I’m not an expert.”

“I don’t have the money.”

I want you to challenge that thinking. For starters, your soul is ageless. Your soul is never too old to do anything. (My mother is a composer and she had her first concert at the age of 60. At Carnegie Hall, no less!) When we focus on what we lack, we’re focused on the vehicle, on how we’re going to get to our dream. We get caught up in the idea that there’s only one vehicle that can take us there.

Vehicles come and go. They have expiration dates and lifespans. (What was your dream car when you were sixteen and in possession of a brand new driver’s license? Is that still your fantasy car?) Vision is timeless. Let me give you a dramatic example.?

Jeff Bezos’ dream of traveling to space began in 1969 when he was a five-year-old watching Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the moon. In 2021, at the age of 57, he finally realized that dream. But he didn’t go to space in that 1969 vehicle. He didn’t take the usual route to space—a degree in astrophysics and a career at NASA. In fact, if he had, he might never have made that voyage because a lot of other people were driving that 1969 car, too.?

Instead of saying “I’m too old and it’s too late for me to get that astrophysics degree,” he looked at the assets he had on hand and built a new vehicle to realize his dream. He used the wealth he built at Amazon to found Blue Origin.

Your assets may not include a billion dollars, but you’ve been building assets your entire life. What are your talents and skills? Are you creative? Are you the person with all the ideas? Do you have the network that everyone else envies? Do you have an entrepreneurial mindset? You have a wealth of experience you didn’t have ten or twenty years ago.?

When we focus on what we lack—on the vehicle we don’t have—we risk missing out on the vehicles we do have. It’s always the right time to fulfill your soul’s desires. You may be delayed, but you’re never too late.
