Does Your Resume Show ATSs That You're Not Even Trying?

I reviewed a resume today and it was shocking. Shocking at how obvious it was that the job seeker wasn't even trying.
It was no surprise when she admitted to me that she hadn't landed any interviews with this resume.
And the candidate wasn't even surprised when I told her, that it looked like she wasn't even trying ... because she wasn't. But she told me her job search goals included finding her next job in January.
Here's how your resume shows both readers and Applicant Tracking Systems that you're not even trying:
- You Send An Uncustomized Resume Template: Since ATSs search based on criteria, how can a resume template match all or most criteria in a job description ... even for the same job title? When you consider that ATSs don't consider common meanings or synonyms as a match, the changes of getting a resume template through an ATS is much lower than you think.
- You Copy Your Official Job Description Into Your Resume: When you copy your official job description into your resume, or use it for bullet points, your reader can tell from the official "HR lingo" and verb tense. This makes it less likely your resume will get through the ATS and more likely that your reader will reject it (if your resume gets that far). They'll reject it, because they can tell you're not trying.
These are common resume examples that give readers the impression that you're putting in minimal effort. So why would an employer think you'll work hard if they hire you?
If you'd like to learn details about how to customize your resume and what to include instead of job descriptions, I'll show you during my next Resume Revolution - Beating The ATS webinar. While we're at it, I'll show you strategies to get through and around Applicant Tracking Systems, based on actual employer hiring processes.
